unset LINGUAS
before trying to build them. By default, only the NLS stuff for your
language will get built.

I've just installed rh6.1 on my desktop, downloaded all of the updates
for this installation in srpm form, and built/installed all but the
following set, which all fail to build similarly.
The set which won't build:
control-center.spec gnome-media.spec gtk+.spec rp3.spec
ee.spec
