Just my .02 worth here but I would stay as far away from Metro-X as
possible. I have several support e-mail's from them, telling me that my
equipment is not supported even though its on their list. I had XFree up
and running within 10min of starting and have not had a single problem
yet.
I know you don't want to here this, but I fixed this by getting rid of MetroX
and using Xfree, I went from 2+ weeks of total frustration to a fresh
install, and 2 hours later I was running Xfree and smashing Bill.

My point was that they took the time to train/get trained personnel in
SCO/Unix, this at least shows they have an interest in other platforms
than M$.

Gordon, Being rather new to this as well I am not going to try and give
you any answers, but what I will do is let you know of a great book that I
have just gotten. I got Teach yourself linux in 24 hours. This has been a
book of good reference for me. I got the book for around $30 with
shipping
I don't have experience with Linux on these systems, but do have
experience with {ok now don't laugh} NT, they are stable systems, the
onboard SCSI is a very well covered Adaptec, if you go to Compaqs
forum they will tell you the exact chipset. Actually the only problem I
have with them is

This is a great modem, I have been using one for the last 1 1/2 years
with out a hitch. I can't testify for its Linux usage as mine has been used
for NT/95 beta 98 use, but the modem itself is great.

Anybody know anything about this one?

Give W.D. a call, this sounds like a problem I have had in the past. Every
