I got the dreaded, infamous message today: You are trying to install on
a machine that isn't supported by this version of Red Hat Linux. This
was while doing an install of Red Hat 9 on a Dell 1750. Works fine on
1650s and 2650s, so who could've predicted?!
The most exasperating thing about
and
dealing with issues not covered in the FAQ.
I have not yet heard of anyone running 8.0.4 with Linux, but a lot of us
are running 7.3.3. Oracle8 is supposed to be available on SCO, however.

having talks with Oracle, and said that when he brought up how seriously
Netscape was thinking about Linux, they didn't laugh him out of the room.
He was heartened by that, he said.

The following is a series of Oracle/Linux Installation HOWTOs posted on Usenet.
They contain enough information so that you should be able to get any 7.x.x
version of Oracle up and running on your Linux box.
Oracle on Linux, once installed, runs quite well. Many reports say that it runs
about
wnloadable from ftp.oracle.com/pub/www. It's on a 90-day
free trial basis. H.
