I am getting allot more frequent errors from my dial-up lines as
follows:
Suspect short first fragment.
eth0 PROTO=17 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:0 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:0 L=20 S=0x00 I=852
F=0x T=112 (#0)
The IPs (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) varies with each incident of course.
This is kernel 2.4.9

I think it's because you don't have ncurses or some other package installed.
Try using either "make config" or start X and run "make xconfig" in xterm. Hope
