i use everybuddy (www.everybuddy.com). i don't know about the other
programs, but everybuddy lets you chat regardless of whether the other
person uses aim, icq, msn or yahoo.

I don't think so; check out mICQ... it's a commandline version of ICQ.

Unfortunately RedHat 5.0 doesn't come with jdk. I belive you can get it
from hitting ICQ's page and following the links for ICQJava.

Get jdk1.1.1-linux it's in the slackware3.4 /contrib/java directory.
mkdir /usr/local
cp jdk1.1.1-linux.tar.gz /usr/local/jdk
cd to it
