The 20.12.1 releases are now published

2021-01-07 Thread Christoph Feck

Hello packagers,

the KDE release team announces the public availability of the
20.12.1 releases for our applications and libraries.

Other independently released applications also had new releases in
the recent weeks. We also have some new applications!

https://kde.org/announcements/releases/2021-01-apps-update/

Please inform your users once you updated. Thanks!

With that, let me introduce Heiko Becker, who already helped
with this release, and volunteered to take over future releases.
Welcome Heiko!

BG,
Christoph

considering that I've enjoyed nice tarballs as a packager for quite a
few years, I'd be willing to step up and give something back. I know my
way around a command line and git and I think I roughly know how the
release service tarballs are made.

Hello Heiko,

sorry for getting back to you this late. Thank you for volunteering to
help the release team with future KDE releases! To get you started, I
plan to involve you in the release process for the 20.12.1 releases.

The steps involved are documented at https://phabricator.kde.org/T12272
(but may a bit outdated). The schedule[1] says we should prepare the
repositories before Jan 4. In the meantime, you could start preparing
your system. I currently do not have access to the machine from where I
do the releases, so some details might be missing.

* git checkout the following repositories:
- sysadmin/release-tools (releases/20.12 branch)
- Jonathan Riddel's repository for "add_appstream_versions.sh"
  (which needs some Python setup)
- all repositories listed at release-tools/modules.git to a flat
  directory
(there used to be a mapping file to find the invent location ...)

* Locally adapt the config file in release-tools to point to the
add_appstream_versions location.

* svn checkout the i18n data using release-tools/update_l10n.sh

* ask sysadmins to get ssh access to these accounts:
- pkgapplicati...@capona.kde.org
- ftpad...@deino.kde.org
Also you need commit access to some repositories for WWW, but since
that recently changed, I am not sure about the repository names.

* make sure you have a GPG key setup. If you are not in our ring,
Albert knows best how to do the key signing via Internet video
conferencing (e.g. Jitsi).
If possible, also investigate how to get your key setup forwarded
to the capona account.

(If anyone can correct me or add to this list, please do :)

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and the whole KDE community!

BG,
Christoph

Did I understand it correctly, that "deino" is the replacement for
"milona", but shouldn't offer ssh/scp access anymore, but need to use sftp?

For what it's worth, I could successfully ssh login to
ftpad...@deino.kde.org (using the credentials I used previously on
milona), and could use mkdir/chmod in stable/release-service path,
albeit response time was very laggy.

If that's not the correct replacement procedure, please clarify.

I briefly mentioned on IRC that some more projects already call

Few of them have been fixed a few days ago, this commit should fix the ones
you just listed above, but they need a respin:

Thanks, I shuffled a bit the SVN repository (Christoph, please update your
checkout) and pushed a new patch for the packaging scripts that should fix this.

Thank you Christophe for the report and Luigi for the prompt fix!

I have uploaded four new tarballs.

Despite having the same git SHA-1, they are different, because the
tarballs come from an updated SVN checkout. The per-language SVN
checkout tag wasn't updated, otherwise I would probably have to respin
all tarballs, which I wanted to avoid. I hope this doesn't cause

Hi Christoph,

the 20.04.1 releases from the KDE Release Service will be published on

Reasons:
- give the promo and translation teams a day more time to prepare the

- avoid clashing with the Plasma 5.19 beta release at the same day
(clash noticed today by the Plasma release team)

infrastructure changes)

If you could please ensure that any operations with regards to the
release are completed by 8pm CEST to avoid any conflicts with
preparations for the migration that would be appreciated.

Should for any reason operations need to take place after that, the
release will need to be postponed to Friday next week.

Hello,

I would need to know what the final outcome of this is. Has the release been
postponed?

Unless someone finds a blocking issue, I plan to finish the release in
14:00-16:00 CEST (12:00-14:00 UTC) timeframe on 15-May.

Can the missing pages be added or is it intentional?

https://kde.org/announcements/releases/2020-02-apps-update/ has links to

Part of the issue here is that Plasma has been known to add API to
Frameworks and then immediately, without any delay, start using it

This means that other changes are likely being pushed into Frameworks
by Plasma with very little delay as well.

Consequently this means stuff is landing in Framework repositories up
to the very moment it is released - a release that the next version of
Plasma (LTS) then depends on.

A better way of approaching this would be to freeze the Frameworks
version you are going to require API wise at an earlier point in the
Plasma development cycle. This would allow for a full Frameworks
release cycle to pass where bugs encountered during the lead up to the
Plasma release can be fixed.

You can find bugs in new code best if you are actually using it. I doubt
that delaying using new API would help much.

Applications 19.08.2 aftermath: kcalcore vs. kcalendarcore

2019-10-22 Thread Christoph Feck

Hi packagers,

Was renaming 'kcalendarcore' back to 'kcalcore' for the release tarballs
a good decision, or did it actually cause more work for packaging?

I plan to also use the old name for 19.08.3, but your feedback is
appreciated.

Thanks,
Christoph

KDE Applications 19.08.2 packages available for packagers

2019-10-07 Thread Christoph Feck

Hello packagers,

*.tar.xz files are available at the usual "stable" location.

Please report issues, release is Thursday.

Note that the 'kcalendarcore' tarball has been renamed back
to 'kcalcore' to not break build scripts. Please verify!

Re: Heads-up: KContacts and KCalendarCore about to move to Frameworks

2019-09-19 Thread Christoph Feck

Hello packagers,

to minimize disruption caused by the git repo rename, I offered to
distribute 19.08.x tarballs with the old name ('kcalcore' instead of
'kcalendarcore').

On the other hand, for some packagers that already adjusted it might
be convenient to also offer a tarball with its new name.

Question:

Would it be problematic if the next 19.08.x releases contain both a
'kcalcore' and a 'kcalendarcore' tarball, basically with the same

content (except for the directory name)?

In case of issues, I will only offer a tarball with the old name.

as previously discussed here and finally approved during Akademy we will
move KContacts and KCalendarCore from Applications to Frameworks. This
should hopefully cause minimal disruptions as the versions then released
with KF 5.63 are drop-in replacements for the previously releases with
Applications (same ABI, higher version number).

KCalendarCore will however rename its Git repo in the process to be
consistent (kcalcore -> kcalendarcore). For kdesrc-build users not actively
working on KCalendarCore this should be transparent, otherwise you might
need to adjust the Git remote accordingly.

I'll inform you once this process has been completed.

This has now been executed. Framework releases will start with 5.63.0,
Application releases will end after 19.08.x.

Plasma 5.12 should build with 5.9.

 /effects/screenshot/screenshot.cpp:110:15: error: ‘const class QImage’

but from qt.io

qsizetype QImage::sizeInBytes() const
Returns the image data size in bytes.
This function was introduced in Qt 5.10.

[effects/screenshot] Upload data to xpixmap in chunks

sizeInBytes() can be emulated with bytesPerLine() * height().

Would it be possible to adopt the convention "tars are announced a few
days before the tag/release" used by Frameworks and Applications also
for the Plasma packages?

This could help to avoid re-tagging in case of compilation errors.

Is it possible to add an exception for pim package please ?

No objections from my side. Timeline would require
that you commit the changes between the 5.60.0 release
on 14th and the 19.07.80 tarball creation on 18th.

Unless anybody else raises concerns.

Hello packagers,

a new tarball for 'messagelib' has been uploaded.

Changes:
Use QTWEBENGINEWIDGETS_VERSION
Add missing include files
Use QTWEBENGINE_VERSION not QT_VERSION for WebEngine feature detection

New required MPFR dependency for kcalc 19.08

2019-06-23 Thread Christoph Feck

Hi,

I have just committed https://phabricator.kde.org/D21495 for kcalc.
It adds a required dependency to MPFR library for the upcoming 19.08
releases.

Unfortunately I didn't expect the CI to not have this dependency, so
right now it fails to build for openSUSE (but works for FreeBSD).

https://build.kde.org/job/Applications/job/kcalc/

Sorry for not checking earlier.

2019-04-15 Thread Christoph Feck

make the initial timeline refactoring release more stable.

Changes:
Fix broken spacer tool and thumbnails disappearing with razor and
space tools

Fix normalise default parameters
Show fade effects in main tab
Fix proxy clip with speed effect losing name
Fix parameters for blur type
Fix bezier effect
Fix compo corruption
Fix url params not activated on return
Fix qml warning
Fix corruption on composition group move
Merge branch 'compo_fix' into 'Applications/19.04'
unbreak corner
Fix some effects parameters
Fix extract zone causing ungroup. Fixes #143
Fix timeline guide losing category on move. Fixes #142
Don't allow composition resize on very small zoom levels (messes
with move)

I have a patch for Akonadi itself, I'll put it on Phab. Before applying tat we
need to fix all components that use this API otherwise it won't build.

Does this mean we cannot create tarballs today from the 19.04 branch for
the beta release?

Maybe konsole should be considered for respin - commit eccfb1f6, "Fix
ibeam and underline cursor rendering", not yet in 18.12 branch but imo
important.

Please respin Konsole if you can to pick the last commit; thanks

Sorry, but it's a bit late for a respin, considering that the issue is
only cosmetic and can be worked-around by using default cursor shape.

Freeze exceptions are granted for serious bugs (including crashes), and
build fixes.

A late respin (Re: KDE Applications 18.12.1 packages available for packagers)

2019-01-10 Thread Christoph Feck

Hi packagers,

A (somewhat late, sorry) respin of umbrello, includes a fix for
maleformed saved files:

umbrello Applications/18.12
3cc83a5f971b93c1e850eaa3a8d19765d6a17ecd
b9981e82513757fa2b564cc7cb8fa35cf1624e60655b216064dda19e1d01738a
sources/umbrello-18.12.1.tar.xz

Release in a bit.
