Hi Jim,
That thing that looks like a fuse (round ceramic cylindrical) is
actually the crystal for the micro in the control head. If you
short it, it really won't work! :-) (thought the same thing got
the T shirt)! haha

Hi Eric,
I looked all through the user's manual (on the supplied disk),
but the only thing they talked about was the backlighting
control. Thought it would be there also. I'll check it again,
perhaps I missed it.
Thanks,
Tim

It's an RLC-2a, an old and discontinued model from Link.
My issue is that I do not want the uhf link transmitter
to ID on its own. It should only ID when someone is
Don't know, but first chance I get I will check it against my calibrated 1200S.

Thank you for saving me the time. I have every Linkcomm controller made,
distributed through our repeater sites, but do not have a 2a. I would have
had to download the manual and learn the old code they used on those
controllers. I never bought one because they were going to be
Sorry for the lack of detail. The radio is a 42 to 50 Mc. Motran with the L
series receiver (same as used in the Motrac). There are a total of 13 tuned
circuits in the front end and multiplier but only 3 of them seem to tune at
all. Those are L801, 810 and 811. The other preselector

If the monitor was one of the older units, then the modules have proper
factory calibration data loaded in them for the entire spread up to 1000 MHz
(plus the 1700-2000 segment). The firmware reads the cal data on startup.
If it's one of the newer units that doesn't have modules which were
I measured the existing coil slugs as follows;
The slugs for L802 through L809 measure 0.129 at the outside of the threads.
The slugs for coils L301 and L302 measure 0.180
I didn't measure the slugs for L801, L810 or L811 as those do appear to tune
adequately.
Hope this helps.

Tim,
I have never used or serviced an XTL2500 radio, so I cannot speak from
personal experience. I suspect, however, that the lack of instructions
about contrast or twist angle- which would be a user adjustment- means that
it does not exist. Perhaps a list member with XTL2500 experience will
Hi Eric,
Apparently that feature is not available.
I've done enough LCD work to know about biasing, etc,
so I might dig into the control head do some measurements.
Would be helpful if I had a schematic of the head tho!
Thanks,
Tim
Tim,
The XTL2500 Control Head is so complex that it has its own Detailed Service
Manual, crammed with dozens of foldout schematic diagrams in its 224 pages.
Order publication 6871771L01, about $45. The XTL2500 Basic Service Manual
is 6816532H01, about $20, and the XTL2500 Detailed Service Manual
