Hi folks,
Might anyone have one or two GE1000 / 1000GE cabinet keys they don't need?
Mine was, sadly, misplaced. One would be great, two even better. (I can
hide the second one somewhere I won't lose it!)
If so, please contact me off list. Thanks

420-430MHz is the site-to-site /linking/ band here in SoCal, *not* a mobile
relay/repeater subband. We've had active links on the band for about 40
years. Due to the concentration of radios in our area, it would neither be
practical nor desirable to place repeaters in the 420-430 subband again.
Here in Southern California the surrounding border-areas, there are
several systems with long paths on 420MHz (the same as 440MHz path
behavior). One of the longest is ~165 miles @ 13W before duplexer/feedline
losses. 10-20W is quite typical for links, and 50W is overkill for most.

In my opinion the radio was really more of a UHF mobile phone that was
modified to be a land mobile radio which could ONLY be used on a repeater
since it was incapable of simplex. The 12 channel option had to be pretty

Do you know, did they ever make the land mobile
Indeed, everyone has made a good point (or more) in this thread. I agree
with Kevin, GE's MASTR II PLL VHF Exciter, or a tube set on any band, are
certainly better. There's a high-performance UHF system that I'm involved
with utilizing a B94MSY (1/4KW tube PA) with only a PD526 duplexer and
The
tuning for the WP-642 is the same as the 641, but you'll have to
tune the additional 2 cavities on the radio side; which are simply

Jim,
The RX should tune well enough. If not, visit

your MASTR II manual handy for referencing parts. (Yes, I need to update
the article with proper LBI numbers) Modification of the helicals is in all
