Here in my local area, there is a battery dealer that handles used "take outs" 
in the AGM models. These are from telephone or commercial back up systems where 
the batteries are replace every year, if they need it or not. We have been able 
to buy 100 - 150 AH models from $45-$75 each. I run my shack off a 150AH model. 
You might check some of your battery dealers around, or talk to some one such 
as a cable TV company or other IT type business about purchasing their take 
outs.
