Thanks for the reply.  Good thought about the DCS and DPL modulation 
and direct FM.  I have a couple of the Delta Crystal units but tired 
of buying crystals. Since the Phoenix does dpl I may get lucky 
there.  
I have a friend that has an application that best used true FM so I 
am trying to hook him up with a radio. I need to look at the diagrams 
more closely and see where they inject both the audio and PL.
