Hello,
If interested there is now a Dayton Hamvention group on Yahoo. Sounds like
the Dayton people put it up to help, not many people on it yet. Just
thought I would mention it.

Re: Dayton whale tales 101
I've noticed a guy selling surplus commercial radio
gear at Dayton pretty much every year I've attended.
A few years back the mentioned surplus Dealer had a
large surplus Motorola MSR-2000 Repeater for sale out
front of his flea market area.
I was side-tracked
Most mfgrs are making dual tier antennas and calling (spec'ing)
their more expensive models for rough service applications.
Telewave, Sinclair, ComProd, Bluewave all make great antennas.
Bluewave makes a really well built antenna I'd spec for service
at any rough service location.
The
I've been doing hamfest for over 35 years now and there seems to be a
small group of hams out there that enjoy showing off their valuble stuff
at these events. (Value is in the eye of the beholder). I recently
helped toss some of this stuff into a dumpster at a silent keys home.
It was
Thanks for the information Paul. There is already road construction detour
information that is nice to know ahead of time.

Think I may have asked this before, but does any one have a source for
replacement Pass/reject loops for the DB40XX series VHF cavities.
This would be the loop with the variable Johanson ceramic capaciter
incorporated for adjusting the Notch. The cavities the loops mount in
are about 20+/-
Joe,
Same thing happened to me with some Johnson 559 mobile radios, that's all I
use on my Ham UHF repeaters. I went in one day and found a stack of five
radios and base. Looked to have been there a long time! I went up and made
an offer of what I had been getting them for at Hamfests and he
Skipp,
I see some dealers at Hamfest with high prices. The ones I know go mainly to
meet other dealers and people with commercial gear. They are not really there
to sell things except at commercial pricing. They are real wheelers and
dealers.
MSR2000s, VHF UHF, are popping up all over for
Is there any service information available on these older modules?
I'm looking for Daniels repeaters or components, older equipment
like MT-2 or MT-3, VHF highband and UHF analog FM.
If there's anyone out there who can help me source any I'd be happy.
Kind regards

Just thought I'd share this with everyone in case you face the same thing.
My 2 meter machine started experiencing noticeable desense about a
week ago. No real serious weather had occurred during this time, just
the usual Oregon rain. As I had replaced the antenna and hardline
about 2 months
Ken,
Your experience is one many run into.
It shows a repeater duplexed on one feedline is radically different than the
typical Ham station.
Connectors that become loose or soiled can cause such problems.
When constructing a repeater one must use commercial grade construction. The
I have seen the identical problem with some adapters (mine were the opposite
sex as yours at both ends) given to me new in the plastic shrink wrap. These
were supplied by Motorola for our use in some equipment they sold us. I took a
few home and it was not long until I had one suffer a similar
Ken,
Your experience adds credence to the oft-mentioned admonition to always use
the appropriate connector on every cable, so that no adaptors or barrels are
needed. However, that is not always possible, and in your particular case
it was unavoidable. I make this statement as an observation and
So where are these famous brats being sold? This will be my first year at
Dayton, and I want to be sure I take in all the important sights and
activities.
Also, what's the secret Repeater-Builder handshake or is the group using
any specific simplex freq? Just so I know who I'm meeting when I
Eric,
I think it's more related to ham thriftiness than anything else. Most of
us are too quick to go for the cheaper. I'm guilty of it - but I try to
reform. Yet relapses seem to happen once in a while. Luckily Radio Shack has
stopped stocking anything other than batteries and cell phones ;-)
I want to install a timer to inhibit ptt until my tubes warm up on my
transmitter, anyone got any favorites?
I am using a .375K Micor PURC and when power is interrupted and comes back on
the exciter drives cold tubes. Motorola didn't think that was too much of a
problem I guess.
thanks

Nevertheless, we must all be vigilant of the presence in the marketplace of

As I recall they're sold out of a stand adjacent to the arena in the flea
market area.

Hi everybody...
The replacment CD-ROM of the Cushman CE-3 Operations / Service Manual
came today, and so far it doesn't look like a mismarked Lotus Pro
install system! I've uploaded it into this board's files. Hope it
helps.
I have another on the deviation meter module that I'll upload..
I use to Buy the Cheap Nice shiny Connectors at Places like Radio
shack and hamfest , Then I started putting Repeaters together 220 and
440 , And Playing with 900Mhz that's when I found out that Cheap
connectors are Crap .
So the next time I went to a Hamfest a Guy had some Boxes of
