Hi Jeff,
I did a check on the can with the original stub, it had
a broad notch at 238 MHz (in addition to the tunable smaller
notch at the 154 mhz).
Looking at the Spec analyz with the trk gen, it looks
like the starting level is 0 dB, then drops as the
notch appears, then comes back, but

The notch you're seeing at 238 is the effect of the shorted stub (I think
you said it was shorted, correct me if I'm remembering wrong). Your
This isn't the most difficult question to answer, and I figure it can be
answered relatively easily. I currently over the past few weeks constructed a
GMRS repeater for my neighbor hood to use. It is constructed of 2 maxtrac
radios one set at just 30 watts tx. I plan to use 2 antenna's so no

If it were me, I'd mount the Celwave on top and use the Heliax on that
antenna. The top antenna being your receive antenna.
The 1/4 wave antenna would be for transmit. I assume it has a ground plane
kit (sounded like you were using a mobile antenna). Feed that with something
other than 9913 or
Receive antenna should be the highest, but 40 feet is probably not enough
isolation.
How far do you need coverage for the repeater?
It would be cheaper to use a duplexer and then you can have the best of both
worlds.
Good receiver and good transmitter range.

My club got a new CAT-400. YEAH!!!
So I am reading the manual in preparation to connect to the TKR-820. I find out
that the CAT-400 does not encode or decode CTCSS. BOOO!!! Now what to do? I
could connect an external encoder/decoder. I really do not want to do that. Who

Note also that the Pion Simon repeater controllers are designed to
plug right into the MASTR II backplane shelf and replace a whole bunch
of (maybe hard to find) GE boards while also adding a number of useful
features.

Maybe worth a look... it's your call on that
Cannot say enough good about the Pion and Simon MASTR II controller. Easy as

As another 1500 user, THANK YOU Joe for taking the time to scan that.
Always happy to download and file those kinds of things away...
Really like my 1500... it's not an HP, mind you, but it does the job.

The PA power/efficiency thread has been a great one to read guys, I
haven't commented much because real-life/work stuff went nuts the last
couple of days.
But a quick thank you to all of you who tried to convert your
knowledge of the topic into readable, usable, plain-english
explanations
Trying not to start a flame fest, but done right... this sounds like a
job for one of those cheap flat-pack mobile duplexers if you bring
the power down a bit. Then use hardline to feed the cellwave and
forget about the 1/4 wave altogether.
30W is WAY overkill for a neighborhood. At 40'

I would agree with Nate that a mobile duplexer would work great here, and
you could still run 30 watts. My response was simply answering your question
using two antennas. Personally, I wouldn't run two antennas.

Ron,
If you really have a Q202G (I'm guessing that Q020G was a typo) cavity
set, they are not bandpass. What suggests that they are bandpass? The
standard Q202G BpBr duplexer has only one loop per can, and a blank plate is
installed where a second loop would be. A tiny threaded cap next to each
I don't expect much coverage. I'm located in the Ohio-WV river valley and it is
relatively hard to get good coverage out of UHF. The repeater sits almost dead
center in the zone I need to coverage and roughly I'd say around 4-5 square
miles at the most. Also on a duplexer could you recommend
I have a set of sinclair Q202GR and a set of Q202G on 2m and they work great. I

do with it. One of the sinclair sets I have has the trimmer
