We had our fill of those here, too. The hot side of the AC line (if you were
lucky, polarized plugs were rare in those days) was connected directly to a

rectifier with the other side of the AC line being connected
Have you tried to resonate it at 27 MHz?

Hi guys
I have had a further look at it today and might have found the reason for
the high swr .The coil didn't seem to be earthing in the braid .When moving
the coax the swr was all over the place .I re crimped the coil under the
coax braid and the swr is now below 1.5:1 on the marine channels .
I've been working on a clubs 223.96Mhz repeater that the receiver lost
sensitivity. It went deaf, so much that the squelch would not even
work. It appears that the plastic variable capacitors in the front end
have gone bad. It was in a very damp water tank environment and this

No help on the caps but felt like commenting on the other part of your post. I
have seen some of the same things. I have had people say that they want to
help with the repeater but if you call they are never available. They always

The trimmer caps should be easy to find at Jameco, Hamtronics,
Digikey and Mouser. If you have nothing to lose, try a small

Hello Ross,
I'm glad to hear that you are interested in repeaters! I hope that
someone in your area elmers you so that the tradition can continue.
Repeaters are a difficult thing to just jump into and the test equipment
that is nice to have can get expensive.

We also had a problem with a 454 pager.
Quintron with a 1/4 k amp.
Only one in the metro area had a spur, but that one traveled as the PA cage
changed temperature.
Got a hold of the paging company, and they turned each one off until we saw the
spur go away.
