The amateur R/C operator has 2 problems...he is using outdated equipment and outdated frequencies according to the coordinating body for R/C. Of course...being an licensed Amateur Radio operator he has the right to do both. The beginning of the problem is with the outdated ARRL plan for 6 meter

Your assertions are true as far as they go, but AMA insurance is then invalid, and most other insurers follow their lead. The AMA standards are the litmus test for insurabilty and represent 'good practice' If the guy is rolling his own, he would understand enough to avoid this problem entirely.
