Title: Financial Graphic Journalist Location: NYC, NY Length: 6 Months+ Will be doing phone screens first between 3pm and 5pm
Project Summary and position overview: Reuters News is looking for an innovative and energetic graphics journalist to help transform our financial news file with insightful graphics to illustrate stories for financial professionals. The journalist will: Create charts, graphs and maps to accompany stories about macro-economic indicators, commodities, companies and political news to support the drive at Reuters for new ways to tell stories to a financial readership. In coordination with regional editors in London and reporters across the region you will create graphics that simplify complex concepts for an investor audience, as well as detailed, complex charts for financial market specialists. The post requires a range of skills, including: the ability to be creative in illustrating news; an understanding of the priorities of the Reuters news file; familiarity with how large news agencies operate; ability to quickly grasp financial market and industry concepts; attention to detail and accuracy; technical proficiency with applications including MS Excel, Adobe Illustrator, Datastream and Reuters 3000 Xtra. The successful applicant should already be competent in most of these requirements and will need to have the ability to quickly master all of these skills. Familiarity with interactive graphics software would be an advantage. Essential day to day responsibilities: § This position will report to the Top News Editor, EMEA, forming part of the team at the core of the news file, focusing on the biggest breaking news stories of the day. § The journalist will be expected to work swiftly with little supervision under tight deadlines, producing graphics requested by Reuters text journalists and editors as well as generating original ideas for creative graphics that will illustrate historical trends or highlight market risks for financial professionals. § The journalist will also play a role in helping educate and train text reporters to expand the graphics element of Reuters multimedia financial news file. § Will be working in a team environment and working independently Required Skills § Ability to work quickly and accurately under tight deadlines § Technically adept with Excel, standard charting tools § Excellent numeracy to accurately check data points, edit charts § Familiarity with financial markets, economics § Ability to illustrate complex financial stories simply and clearly. § Strong interpersonal skills to work with senior editors and regional correspondents § Must have ideas on how to illustrate § MS Excel, Adobe Illustrator, Datastream and Reuters 3000 Xtra § Be news Savvy Top Skills: Produce Graphics Have experience with Financial news and how financial news moves in the market Nice to have: Experience with Financial Clients (Wall Street) News Room Experience Education: Bachelors or Graduate degree in communications, finance and/or graphic design --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "REQSRESUMES" group.
