*Description*

The technician will be responsible for assisting in the planning, and
implementation of a Voice WAN/LAN infrastructure.  This equipment will
consist of, but not limited to; routing, wireless, and voice convergence
devices.



*Requirements:*

This role will assist the Office of Technology in transitioning the state's
existing infrastructure to a converged network combining the needs of video,
voice, and data onto one platform in an effort to increase the State's
overall communications value and efficiency.  The candidate will work
closely with an Office of Technology engineer and Project Manager.  The
candidate will be responsible for converting current voice technologies to
VoIP and SIP solutions.  This includes, but not limited to, PSTN
connectivity, voice processors/gateways, switches, and routers.  The project
consists of voice network designing, equipment configuration/installation,
documentation, and troubleshooting.



In addition, the engineer is responsible for providing advanced technical
support and advice to others on engagements of office relocations and
equipment deployments while working with team members and third party
organizations.  During the project implementation, technological
methodologies and components will be utilized.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

   - Assist in the installation, maintenance, repair and operation of the
   network infrastructure**
   - Functions as PBX and phone mail administrator, works closely with
   telephone company and other company personnel to install and repair
   telephone circuits**

·         Works with project coordinator for telecommunications capital
projects

·         Assures that company wireless systems operate within the
guidelines set forth by the FCC

·         Performs on-site troubleshooting, installation and repairs under
the direction of other support organizations as requested
·         Works with Central Network personnel configuring routers, hubs,
and channel banks ·         Works with building infrastructure cabling
systems, both fiber and metallic mediums

   - Fabricates telecommunications equipment as directed
   - Documents changes to system drawings and records, orders and maintains
   spare parts and supplies
   - Logs and updates problems and accurately maintains inventory records
   - Serves as an advocate for the Business Services organization


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

   - Must be competent using various types of electronic test equipment
   - Must understand the operation, use and proper methods for testing
   various telephone/data circuits
   - Must have a general understanding of various network protocols
   - Must understand the principals of asynchronous/synchronous data
   communications
   - Must have a general knowledge and experience with proper installation
   of inter-office phone/LAN wiring and fiber optics
   - Possess strong interpersonal and communications skills
   - Must have the skills to make component level repairs on most equipment
   - Ability to focus on Customer needs and prioritize work load accordingly

·         Understand various network protocols

   - Understand OSI seven layer model
   - Possess basic computer skills and be familiar with Microsoft Office
   Suite software

·         Understands and complies with all OSHA and company safety
regulations


Special Requirements

May require working in small spaces or confined spaces.  Some travel may be
involved including air travel.  Must have a valid driver’s license.  Must be
able to lift at least fifty.  Hazards may include the following: potential
exposure to electrical shock, burns, falls, battery acid, noise, dust,
natural gas and exposure to various chemicals.  In addition, some exposures
to weather conditions include sun, mud, snow, rain, etc.  Ability to work
overtime and weekends as required.  Ability to be on-call 24 hours/day, as
necessary.
