Job Title : SQL DBA Project Duration : *6 month *Contract with a really good chance could go a year or more. Location : Waltham, Mass – near Boston *Rate : DOE* Skill set : *Summary:*** - Responsible for database design, creation, *coding*, implementation, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting for software applications *Responsibilities:*** - Maintains database management systems, standards, guidelines and quality assurance for database deliverables, such as conceptual design, logical database, capacity planning, external data interface specification, data loading plan, data maintenance plan and security policy - May build windows, screens and reports and assist in the design of user interface and business application prototypes - Participates in quality assurance and develops test application code in client server environment - Provides expertise in devising, negotiating and defending the tables and fields provided in the database - Adapts business requirements, developed by business systems analysts/modeling/development staff, and develops the data, database specifications, and table and element attributes for an application - Models databases and develops tables, stored procedures, views, triggers, and other database objects - Maintains database dictionaries, monitors overall database standards and procedures, and integrates systems through database design - Works closely with other developers to integrate databases with other applications - May provide guidance to other technical professionals - DBA responsibilities such as SQL Server monitoring, troubleshooting, and job management - TSQL code troubleshooting and optimization - Periodically serves as "DBA on call" ready to respond to an off hours production problem - Performs other related duties as assigned *Requirements:*** - 5+ years of database development and administering experience including fluency and deep understanding of MS SQL Server 2008, TSQL, SSB, SQLCLR, setting up and troubleshooting replication, setting up and using MS SQL Server Profiler traces, stored procedures troubleshooting and optimization - Experience with SSRS, SSIS - Proficiency to create and support database technical environments - Excellent verbal and written communication skills to technical and non-technical audiences of various levels in the organization (e.g., executive, management, individual contributors) - Willingly shares relevant technical and/or industry knowledge and expertise to other resources - Excellent decision-making, problem-solving, team, and time management skills - Is resourceful and proactive in gathering information and sharing ideas - Ability to estimate work effort for project sub-plans or small projects and ensure the project is successfully completed - Thorough knowledge of the functions, features and benefits of installed database management platforms and associated structures - Thorough knowledge of database design methods and techniques - Thorough knowledge of database security methods and procedures - Thorough knowledge of applications development and support - Thorough knowledge and expertise in performance tuning - Thorough knowledge of techniques to define logical relationships among data, processes, or events - Extensive knowledge and expertise on strategic database platforms, structures, and migration considerations - Skill in the identification of performance problems and implementation of solutions to correct performance problems - Skill in conducting tests to newly installed/upgraded software - Skill in effectively communicating orally and in writing - Skill in researching client needs, regulations, technologies, and data conditions - Skill in isolating and resolving complex problems and utilizing appropriate diagnostic tools - Works effectively with counterparts in the client organization - Ability to estimate, plan, manage, and communicate activities/deliverables of a mid-size project plan (i.e., a plan that affects a single system or product family and uses multiple resources) - Ability to analyze information and formulate conclusions and recommendations - Ability to plan and execute a software platform change with minimal disruption in service to clients - Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, clients and public *Scope:* - *Works without supervision on the most complex projects* ** - *Complete latitude for independent judgment* ** - *Coaches and mentors more junior technical staff* ** - Develops large and/or highly complex solutions that require analysis and research - Works on multiple projects as a project leader or technical leader/consultant - Works on complex tasks, projects or issues that involve a high degree of risk, impacts business unit performance and makes use of the individuals' high level of knowledge within one or more database technologies -- Thanks! *SCOTT .
