*Location: NY **(LOCALS ONLY)*** *Duration: 6months* *Rate: DOE* *Job Description *** The role of web developer will focus on News and Business information distribution to the world's media organizations. The particular product will draw from modern web applications approaches and social media to enable media professionals to more effectively engage with each other. Familiarity with social networks, open APIs, mobile, and web applications development and scaling are essential. The successful candidate will take responsibility for development of the front end user experience reporting to the lead developer. of all technology including: system architecture, managing a small team of developers, hands-on development, interaction with the VP engineering of the Media division, working in a cross-functional team, and hand-off with internal systems administrators and 3rd party providers. The role will expose the candidate to the highest levels within the organisation, and will likely include public and internal presenation skills. Experience working with journalists, editors, publishers, broadcasts, advertisers and product marketing professionals are most welcome - as these are our customers. The successful candidate to be involved from the start of this project and will be founding member of the team. The right candidate will have prior experience in building web products/services and show the ability to be a creative thinker working from the ground up on problems. The successful candidate will be comfortable discussing business models, user experience, marketing strategy and the overall product value proposition. The candidate will not be working against exhaustive functional specification, so managing expectations with some shifting goals will be part of the successful candidate's role. This is a challenging position and requires the candidate to be technically very strong and up to date with the latest web standards and trends – examples of previous work is required. The ability to communicate well and work under their own supervision is also required, as you will work as part of a motivated and talented team. *Skills Required *** This is a predominately a web developer role and the ideal candidate would have multi- platform experience in developing back end web services. - Java; Web Architectures and Scaling; Tomcat; Struts; Apache; MySql; XHTML; RESTful and SOAP APIs; Linux; MVC; Previous experience is in building larger scale web sites; Agile Development experience.* *** *Nice to have: *** - PHP; Social Community experience; Javascript / AJAX; Understanding of business models; User experience sensitivity.
