Your current grub likely doesn't have the extensions necessary to boot
from ZFS.

The usual way to do this is to run /boot/solaris/bin/update_grub.

If you want to run the utility by hand, it's invoked like this:

  /usr/sbin/installgrub /boot/grub/stage1 /boot/grub/stage2 /dev/rdsk/c0d0s0

... though if you ever have to do that, that might be worthy of a bug.
