 Description
During installation of Opensolaris Build 37/38/39 the machine freezes
after whatever install option I choose (ex 1. Solaris Interactive
 (default).
 Some remarks:
To debug the kernel I already booted the Opensolaris installation with
 the -kdvs bootparameters.
In the KMDB debugger I've placed a breakpoint: ::bp ata`ata_common_id
I continue the kernel by issuing the :c command
Each time the ata_common_id function is called (depends on the number of
disks in the system) I run the following commands:
 ::step out
 :c
The machine does not seem to freeze during execution of the ata_common_id
 function.
After some time I get the actual install options:
 1. Solaris Interactive (default)
 2. Custom Jumpstart
 3. etc...
After selecting one of these options the actual freeze occurs. I'm not
able to do a F1+A to stacktrace. I downgraded my bios version but the
problem still does occur then. I upgraded my BIOS to v3.06, the result is
that the installation freezes yet earlier. I also disabled PnP and legacy
USB support in the BIOS but also without any success!

[request-sponsor] CR 6428415 *HOT* Created P1 opensolaris/triage-queue Machines freezes after choosing installation option]

2006-06-07 Thread Seth Goldberg

[NOTE: Let's take this off this list for future communications]

Hi,

The following URL gives a good overview of the process:
   http://www.opensolaris.org/os/communities/participation

(You're in the development phase :) -- we just need to root-cause the
problem and and come up with fix, at which point you'll test it, and we can
integrate it.) I'll try to help as best I can (but of course without having
the hardware it's difficult to do direct debugging, and the general idea of
sponsorship is to have the contributor do the heavy-lifting), including advice
on how to debug problems like these.

One thing we may want to do is contact Tyan and see if they can tell us what
changed in their 2882 BIOS from v3.03 to 3.06 (since you stated that going
back to v3.03 cleared up on of the hangs).

   Thanks,
   --S
