Scott, think you can close this one. I found a config parameter that lets you specify what component of the url is associated with the image directory.
I'd set this parameter to be the same as the absolute path to the image directory. In my case, as soon as i'd changed it to be /wiki/images instead of /usr/web....images, everything worked.
