A major part of this role will be working very closely with key stakeholders who include R&D, Infrastructure Services teams, as well as the Service Operations teams, in ensuring the technologies adhere to 99.9% or higher uptime. Previous experience in working with development teams to deploy and support customer-facing services is a requirement. Key Responsibilities & Daily effort Manage deployed services across AWS, focused on EMR/Hadoop data analysis and processing Work as part of a service specific engineering team to assist R&D architect and design products, with ownership to deploy and support the Production environments for highly available, SLA bound, customer facing services. Act as tier 3 on-call operations, managing and resolving escalated issues on a 24X7X365 basis, and as part of a on-call rotation Experience in designing and automating application layer system monitoring , complex event management and design Work directly with and within the R&D and Program teams to collect requirements, design and deploy high-availability, robust, resilient and supportable solutions Work as part of a virtual team of engineers responsible for defining and driving technology standards across the Cloud Computing, Operations and Delivery team Translate service design (including functional & non-functional requirements) into testing requirements and take responsibility for testing activities in final environments Drive the major incidents towards resolution by liasing with multiple stakeholders in a geographically diverse environment Understand Agile, Kanban and similar development disciplines, and function in a Dev-Ops environment for rapid software deployment Use backup and recovery best practices to ensure critical systems are protected from data loss. Maintain ISO 9000 level documentation of all system requirements and support processes. Qualifications and Skills A successful candidate meets the following: Degree in Computing Science or equivalent 10+ years experience in relevant software or internet service industry with a service operational background supporting high availability 24x7x365 environments . Administration level experience with AWS deployments and support experience required.. Working/Administration level experience with AWS EMR or Hadoop Administration level experience with Red Hat Linux, CentOS and similar Working knowledge of application Servers and open Source Components (JBoss. Apache Lucene, PHP, Data-Grid Technologies ) Functional knowledge of network/loadbalancing/firewall implementations, troubleshooting and general topology Strong scripting skills in Ruby with others such as Perl & Python a plus Familiar with revision control systems, deployment tools, and other operations tools (CVS, SVN); deployment tools (Puppet, cfengine) Excellent negotiation and communication skills Project management experience Ability to succeed in a highly matrixed, virtual and international culture where change and speed are part of daily work.
