Responsibilities include capacity-planning, sizing, implementation, and maintenance for new applications in the WAS environment. Additionally, the position would involve research, tool development and documentation for future WAS environments. This position will require a government approved background screening that verifies U.S. citizenship, education, negative criminal history and egregious financial history. Summary of responsibilities: • Gather and document business requirements of application characteristics, including third-party software requirements, backend resources, and means of implementation. • Design web hardware infrastructure. This includes authoring design documents and guiding them through the approval process. • Provide technical support to web application developers when required. This includes promoting use of best practices, ensuring standardization across applications and troubleshooting. • Monitor, tune and performance test activities for live and in-flight applications. • Provide assistance and training to lower-level web engineers. This includes creating standardized processes to simplify and standardize support engineers' role, and providing guidance to engineers from disciplines such as networking, database management, middleware etc. Required experience: • 5+ years of experience, including design and advanced trouble-shooting skills, of major web and application tier software offerings. WebSphere Application Server and Apache/IHS on Unix platforms a strong plus. • In-depth knowledge of web systems end to end. Though our group’s core competency is web/application tier system software and hardware a working knowledge of all application components, such as RDBMS’s, LDAP, and Queueing solutions is required. • Good working knowledge of the capabilities of current state network devices, particularly load-balancers, DNS and hardware encryption devices. Ability to communicate w/ network personal in their own language is a must for specifying the use and configuration of these devices. • Ability to ramp up on new technology quickly. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • TRICARE certification - can be obtained within 3 months of employment.
