I was converting someone from Mac to PC and was wondering whether Mac
files, when restored by Retro 4.3 to a W98 client, would have the
illegal chars filtered out. I can deal with the usual /?* by
pre-processing but there's some other chars that seem to choke PCs
that I can't get rid of.

Illegal file names will be converted to an 8.3 equvilant, usually with a "~1" at the
end of the file name.

Retrospect Experts:
Being a complete AppleScript novice, I ask your indulgence in answering
what *should* be a fairly simple question. The documentation for the
"FileMaker Pro Server Toggle" AppleScript that is included with Retrospect
4.3 refers specifically to to FileMaker 3.0. The
The first time the applescript is launched, you will be asked to locate the Applicatio
"Filemaker Pro Server". Direct the Applescipt to the correct application and from

I get a reproducable blue screen on a compaq 1600 R with two smart array

called aspichk.exe. Run this to find out which version (if any) of aspi is
installed on your server. Mine had none. ASPI stands for Advanced SCSI

I have questions for y'all:
When running a backup operation of a LOCAL disk (RAID 5 Array, actually)to
a DLT7000 drive, I noticed that the Performance reported varied widely,
from a high of 450MB/min to a low of 13 MB/min, and the "Time Remaining"
would jump around pretty much based on this.

What application did you point your script to?
Because the FileMaker 5 server is currently under heavy user load, I have
not yet directed the script to
