Let me preface this by saying that I am not an expert in this but it
sounds like something that happened to us also when we switched our old
machines to G4s also (same error 519). I tried several things but my
first thought though is because you said it worked through AppleTalk,
you might have to reinstall the Retrospect client software on the G4 and
when you go through the installation, it gives you the option of
selecting which protocol to use for that machine (either AppleTalk or
TCP/IP but not both). I had the wrong protocol on the G4s that didn't
backup. At the same time, I also through away some related preference
files and started fresh and it worked. 

Anyhow, that's my two cents worth so good luck!
