Re: Interrupted Backups with Retrospect 4.3 Mac

2000-12-20 Thread Gary R. Bernstein

I just want to point out that we have been experiencing this problem for a
about a year now. We contacted Dantz and was told to "lock the
application" which we have tried with limited success. However, this
problem originally occurred during 4.2's installation. We were hoping that
4.3 (installed a few weeks ago) would solve the problem for us.

*Nobody* has been in the locked server room at these ungodly hours -

change. Is there something about the new program that could cause
  this behavior?

Meanwhile, I think we'll try version 4.2 for tonight's backup.

FYI, reverting to Retrospect 4.2 has cured this problem everywhere we've
tried it. Interestingly, on one OS 8.6/ASIP 6.2 server, Retrospect 4.3
ran fine for nearly two weeks, and then all of a sudden started the same
"do you really want to stop ...?" routine.

4.2 to the rescue ... but we are still no closer to finding the root cause
 of the 4.3 behavior. YMMV.

I've had the same problem with our back-ups. The only workaround that works
for me is to turn off the "lock out volumes during back-up" under
"AppleShare Options..."
