We really need to reopen this issue as more and more people are going
to have problems with this design of sending as the logged in user.

Hi,
In 1.6, we make use of the Sender field to tell servers and clients
what the one true static address is. The From is still set to be the
user, but by using Sender we no longer have the problems you mentioned
in the bug (assuming you're using a standards-compliant mail server).
