Re: Review Board 1.7 beta 1 released

2012-12-22 Thread Christian Hammond
You really should be using the packages and not the tarball.

If you're using Python 2.4, you will need to upgrade to a newer 2.x release
(2.7 is recommended).

Run ./contrib/internal/build-media.py manually and see what happens.

 running bdist_egg

Re: Review Board 1.7 beta 1 released

2012-08-07 Thread Daniel Laird
I checked permissions - it turned out that ext had permissions of 755 and
infact needs 775 as the user is in group www-data but the www-data needs w
access to ext.
Perhaps that could be added to the debug message to help other people who
make the same mistake as me.

Cheers

 Hi Daniel,

The CACHE_* warnings you get are harmless. Just new APIs in Django we have
 to migrate to.

We can't detect the config file location. The user may be using our
auto-generated ones, or they may have copied/pasted into their Apache
configuration. There's no way for us to know.

So I wasn't completely sure, but did you create the ext directory and set
the ownership on it? Can you show me a ls -ld of that directory? That
should be the last thing you'd need to configure.

This took a while and generated the following:
Upgrading Review Board from 1.6.11 to 1.7 beta 1
There are unapplied evolutions for auth.
There are unapplied evolutions for accounts.
There are unapplied evolutions for diffviewer.
Adding baseline version for new models
Project signature has changed - an evolution is required
 Installing custom SQL ...
 Installing indexes ...
 Installed 0 object(s) from 0 fixture(s)

 Evolution successful.
 Resetting in-database caches.
 Upgrade complete.

The location of static media files (CSS, JavaScript, images)
has changed. You will need to make manual changes to
 your web server configuration.

For Apache, you will need to add:

 Alias /static /var/www/reviewboard-satv.tandbergtv.lan/htdocs/static

For lighttpd, add the following to alias.url:

 /static = /var/www/reviewboard-satv.tandbergtv.lan/htdocs/static

Once you have made these changes, type the following
 to resolve this:

 $ rb-site manage /var/www/reviewboard-satv.tandbergtv.lan
 resolve-check static-media

I think the help could tell you which conf file to update with the Alias.

However did that and then ran the command specified.

I then restarted memcached and apache.
However I now get a splash screen that says:

 *Manual server updates required
**A recent upgrade requires manual updates to be made on this server.
After these changes are made, you should restart your server.
**If you have any questions or problems, please contact us on our

 But I have done this:
 It also says:

*Your site's extensions media directory isn't properly set up. This
directory is where Review Board will store various extension media files.
**Your extensions media directory is currently at:
 /var/www/reviewboard-satv.tandbergtv.lan/htdocs/media/ext
 **Permission problems
**The directory must be writable by the web server. On Linux/Unix/Mac,
you can fix this by typing:
 **$ sudo chown -R www-data
 /var/www/reviewboard-satv.tandbergtv.lan/htdocs/media/ext
**On Windows, right-click the data directory and change the ownership
 to www-data.*

But I have also checked this.
Have you got any logging I can try and turn on to debug further?
Finally I am also getting a lot of these when running any rb-site
 commands:

There's a few things that it seems are broken with newer Pipelines. I know
for sure that 1.2.1 works. Any way you could just package that for now?
Looking into the remaining things, but there's some ugly issue I'm not
completely sure about yet.

Yeah, looks like I'm going to have to package that up first, since it

Ah well, one step at a time.

Ok, finally got django_pipeline accepted into Fedora today.
Unfortunately, now I'm having a compilation problem with ReviewBoard:

Note: TypeError: compile_file() got an unexpected keyword argument
 'outdated'

This is with the ReviewBoard 1.7beta1 tarball and django_pipeline
 1.2.14.

Any help would be appreciated. I need to get this in today to make the
 Fedora 18 deadline :(

Ugh, unfortunately not. It's a real pain to revert a version in Fedora.
(It can be done, such as when regressions necessitate it), but it's
never done lightly. It requires mangling the version numbers in a
particularly ugly way to ensure that anyone who happened to install the
previous package will still update to the new one (despite the version
being lower).

I don't suppose you could point me at specific patches that I could
revert in the django_pipeline 1.2.14 release instead that would get it
working in the meantime?

Re: URGENT: Review Board still not building (was Re: Review Board 1.7 beta 1 released)

2012-08-06 Thread Christian Hammond
I have no idea. I fixed a few things (they changed the API around a bit,
breaking non-bundled media compilers), but even after fixing that, I'm
getting a much more concerning error. I'll try to track it down and see if
we can fix it, but if not, it'll need to be fixed in pipeline.

Given the API changes, I'd be concerned about reverting code in pipeline
for the package.

I'll keep you informed as I learn more.

This branch has what we need on the djblets side:

https://github.com/chipx86/djblets/tree/pipeline-fix

Unless there's just something messed up here, you should hit problems with
pipeline not finding files in the PipelineCachedStorage. I traced the first
occurrence to revision dd2eed6e51bcfa4352b95a12e8f43c0feaca8819, but even
if I revert that on master, I still hit some issues. Can you confirm?

Looking at the pipeline commit you referenced, I can understand why it's
still having issue. That patch is just an exception-catcher for an
underlying issue that they must have introduced earlier. I'm going to
see if I can spot an earlier patch that may have introduced the issue
with writing to a static root (unless that's an assumption that Review
Board is making that it should not be).

Going further, if that change is reverted, the next failure seems to
come from when they redid the compiler API. What's odd is that the
code doesn't look like it should be an issue, but the bisects keep
pointing to it. This is revision
   96b356d7c9a8e5626b4ce018577984b89c7f2178.

From further investigation, it looks like that patch was completely
broken until they added both c1ff4867fe57a9fffbddae38b51d888c85304a87
and fb51fba3f391a9685f4ab65757e7511e3f927df8 to fix it properly. So
we're probably getting a false-positive from git bisect because those
two patches are also not included. Maybe a quick 'git rebase -i' to
merge those into 96b356d7c9a8e5626b4ce018577984b89c7f2178 will allow git
bisect to find the real culprit?

The only other thing I noticed was that they did change behavior in one
place in that code. In Compiler.compile(), they were previously passing
output_path to the compilers as the output argument, but this patch
changes that to be output_file as determined by finders.find(). Being
unfamiliar with the code and the return type of finders.find(), I can't
  say whether this is relevant.

Thanks very much for your help on this Christian, but at this point
(with my deadline running close and the hour growing late), I'm just
going to go the downgrade route and treat this as a life-lesson: always
test version compatibility before making a release.

Thanks again, and if we find a solution for this later on, I can still
upgrade django_pipeline back up to a recent release. I'll just be
carrying the annoying epoch version-mangle forever. C'est la vie.

Sorry man :( That's my life-lesson. I had thought our servers and nightly
builds upgraded to django-pipeline along with the release, but no,
apparently not.

I'll keep poking at this and talk to the developer. He's a good guy and has
helped with these regressions before, so we'll get it figured out.

Thanks for all your help on this. Really sorry for the trouble.

Actually, in a lucky comedy of errors, an unrelated glitch in the Fedora
servers meant that my 1.2.14 package never actually made it out to any
of the Fedora mirrors. So I got lucky and was able to just yank it out
of the queue and I'll be able to avoid the version-mangling for now.

So all's well that ends well, I suppose. If you and the pipeline
upstream do sort things out though, I'd be appreciative of a heads-up so
I can rev the version back up.

  out.

One more problem :(

Now I'm seeing this traceback (failure to import jsmin.py). I assume
there's another package I need, but Google is failing me here.

Review Board 1.7 beta 1 released

2012-08-03 Thread Christian Hammond
Hey everyone,

I'm happy to announce that we've pushed out the release of Review Board 1.7
beta 1. There's many new and exciting things in this release, but rather
than repeat myself, I'll just link you to the news post.

http://www.reviewboard.org/news/2012/08/03/review-board-17-beta-1-released/

Please let me know if you hit any problems. And remember, it's a beta, so
use your best judgment when deciding where to deploy it. Any testing would
definitely be helpful, though, as that will help ensure a higher-quality
release.

The tarball for Djblets 0.7 is missing the contrib directory, so I
cannot generate the media files from it. Could you please re-release it?

Re: Review Board 1.7 beta 1 released

2012-08-03 Thread Daniel Laird
I have tried to install this release.
I had to manually installed Djblets 0.7 and then I could install by
specifying -f to easy_install.
Onc done I then did
rb-site upgrade /path/my/site

This took a while and generated the following:
Upgrading Review Board from 1.6.11 to 1.7 beta 1
There are unapplied evolutions for auth.
There are unapplied evolutions for accounts.
There are unapplied evolutions for diffviewer.
Adding baseline version for new models
Project signature has changed - an evolution is required
Installing custom SQL ...
Installing indexes ...
Installed 0 object(s) from 0 fixture(s)

Evolution successful.
Resetting in-database caches.
Upgrade complete.

The location of static media files (CSS, JavaScript, images)
has changed. You will need to make manual changes to
your web server configuration.

For Apache, you will need to add:

Alias /static /var/www/reviewboard-satv.tandbergtv.lan/htdocs/static

For lighttpd, add the following to alias.url:

/static = /var/www/reviewboard-satv.tandbergtv.lan/htdocs/static

Once you have made these changes, type the following
to resolve this:

$ rb-site manage /var/www/reviewboard-satv.tandbergtv.lan resolve-check
static-media

I think the help could tell you which conf file to update with the Alias.
However did that and then ran the command specified.

I then restarted memcached and apache.
However I now get a splash screen that says:

*Manual server updates required
**A recent upgrade requires manual updates to be made on this server.
After these changes are made, you should restart your server.
**If you have any questions or problems, please contact us on our mailing
 list.*

But I have done this:
It also says:

Re: Review Board 1.7 beta 1 released

2012-08-03 Thread Christian Hammond

I have tried to install this release.
I had to manually installed Djblets 0.7 and then I could install by

Upgrading Review Board from 1.6.11 to 1.7 beta 1

There are unapplied evolutions for accounts.
There are unapplied evolutions for diffviewer.
Adding baseline version for new models
Project signature has changed - an evolution is required
 Installing custom SQL ...
 Installing indexes ...
 Installed 0 object(s) from 0 fixture(s)

 Evolution successful.
 Resetting in-database caches.
 Upgrade complete.

The location of static media files (CSS, JavaScript, images)
has changed. You will need to make manual changes to
 your web server configuration.

For Apache, you will need to add:

 Alias /static /var/www/reviewboard-satv.tandbergtv.lan/htdocs/static

For lighttpd, add the following to alias.url:

 /static = /var/www/reviewboard-satv.tandbergtv.lan/htdocs/static

Once you have made these changes, type the following
 to resolve this:

 $ rb-site manage /var/www/reviewboard-satv.tandbergtv.lan
 resolve-check static-media

I think the help could tell you which conf file to update with the Alias.
However did that and then ran the command specified.

I then restarted memcached and apache.
However I now get a splash screen that says:

 *Manual server updates required
**A recent upgrade requires manual updates to be made on this server.

Yeah, the pipeline (django_pipeline) module. Guessing we left it out of the
dependency list for Djblets (though RB has it).

I can fix this in a couple hours, but I imagine that's not fully necessary on
fedora once you have a package for it?

Yeah, looks like I'm going to have to package that up first, since it

Ah well, one step at a time.
