The most likely explanation is that somewhere you have a track with an
ARTISTSORT or ALBUMARTISTSORT tag of Palmer, Robert. If you have that
on _any_ track you will get the results you are seeing for _all_ Robert
Palmer tracks.
The best thing to do is look at all your tracks in a good tagging
Thanks aubuti that is exactly what I thought and exactly what I have
done. Perhaps I missed it on the first pass. Have used mp3tag for
donkeys. Although fairly new here have had a SB setup for 3-4 years.

In addition to the ARTISTSORT and ALBUMARTISTSORT tags, be on the
lookout for various MusicBrainz tags, which also create havoc
sometimes.

Just done a second pass - it was an ARTISTSORT on one track of one album
- I must have used one of the online libraries to get the cover art
(usually use Amazon) which created the tag and then I deleted them (or
so I thought).
My basic tags get created by my vinyl digitizing software (Play It
Glad to hear it was something simple and not some bizarro
previously-unencountered case.
