Re: [SlimDevices: Ripping] Copying info from one FLAC tag to another?
Maybe you could have a look at custombrowse/customscan. When hard to fix tag/browse problems occurs, they are the solution (mostly;) ) -- vrobin vrobin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11705 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39315 ___ ripping mailing list ripping@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/ripping
Re: [SlimDevices: Ripping] Copying info from one FLAC tag to another?
I'm not sure what else to do to address the issue without resorting to the tag editing you referred to for Thin Lizzy (like your choice by the way, great band). I've not come across this problem because I took a decision at the outset not to differentiate CDs for multiple CD sets. In my case I basically name the albums the same across all CDs in a multiple CD set and number the tracks consecutively across the CDs. The only other thing that springs to mind is the behaviour settings under the Server Settings / Behavior: *COMPILATIONS You can choose to have compilation albums appear together under "Various Artists" or have them appear under each artist in the compilation* - I have this set to group compilation albums together and *Albums that contain songs that are tagged with a band may be listed under that band name or with the other artists for that album. The band tag is also known as TPE2 and may appear as the "album artist" in some software.* -- min is set to list albums by all artists for that album. I suspect in your case you should change that to "list albums by band" if you have not already done so. -- egd Thecus N5200PRO >> Transporter >> ATC SCA2 >> ATC SCM100SLAT egd's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3425 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39315 ___ ripping mailing list ripping@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/ripping
Re: [SlimDevices: Ripping] Copying info from one FLAC tag to another?
Thanks for the tip on the MP3Tag Actions!!! That worked a treat! I created a very simple Action to write the "BAND" tag with the contents of "Album Artist" and tested it before letting it loose on the 7,000 odd tracks, but it worked fine. After a complete clear and rescan I now have the results I was after when listing "Album, by Artist". The only exception is another oddity that seems to occur with multiple artists on non-compilation albums. SS appears to use the Artist who was tagged on the last track of the album, even if the "BAND" tag is set across all the tracks. The example I found last night was with the two-disc set of Thin Lizzy's Greatest Hits. In the "Album, by Artist" I expected these two to appear right next to each other. However, the first disc was listed in the P's for artists, not the T's. The reason seemed to be that the last track on disc 1 has an Artist tag of 'Phil Lynott', even though all of the other tracks have the "Artist" as 'Thin Lizzy' and the "Album Artist" and "BAND" tags are also set to 'Thin Lizzy'. Changing the "Artist" tag on the final track to 'Thin Lizzy;Phil Lynott' restored the disc to its rightful position among the T's... Both discs had the "Compilation" tag set to zero, and the disc numbering was correct. I'm still trying to get my head around the exact logic used by SS, and what tags may take precedence over others, but things are now arranged as I want them at least, so thanks to all who advised! Sounds like you're on the right track then. In my case all tracks have a single artist in the ARTIST tag and compilation set to 0/1 depending on whether or not the album is of the VA variety. Having more than one artist set for tracks/albums would explain the behaviour you're seeing, and it would seem that adding the BAND tag, in conjunction with COMPILATION=0/1 as the case may be, takes care of that for you. Here are some references that may assist further if required (obviously I would be well-advised to read them too): http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?BeginnersGuideToTagging http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?SlimServerSupportedTags http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?MultiDisc -- egd Thecus N5200PRO >> Transporter >> ATC SCA2 >> ATC SCM100SLAT egd's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3425 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39315 ___ ripping mailing list ripping@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/ripping
Re: [SlimDevices: Ripping] Copying info from one FLAC tag to another?
Hi again, It may be that I am approaching this the wrong way then, but I can give a little more detail on what I have seen in my tests... Taking the album "Push The Button" by "The Chemical Brothers". Some of the tracks have more than one Artist listed, using multiple artists in a single "ARTIST" tag separated by the semicolon character (which SS is configured to recognise as a separator). When browsing "Albums, by Artist", the album artwork is shown correctly, but it is labelled as "'Push The Button' by 'The Chemical Brothers, Q-Tip, The Magic Numbers, Anwar Superstar'" i.e. it lists all the Artists who are tagged in the 11 tracks. This is true if the "BAND" tag DOES NOT exist, but the "Album Artist" tag does (on all tracks obviously). When I populate the "BAND" tag with 'The Chemical Brothers', the "Album, by Artist" view shows "'Push The Button' by 'The Chemical Brothers'" which is the result I want... I don't know if this is something to do with the differences between "BAND", "Album Artist" and maybe even "AlbumArtist" tag usage by SS, but these are the results as I find them. Removing the "Album Artist" tag altogether, and keeping the "BAND" tag, still produces the consolidated result of "'Push The Button' by 'The Chemical Brothers'", which is what makes me think that SS may be ignoring the "Album Artist" tag. Incidentally, adding the "COMPILATION=0" tag to all the files produces the result of removing the album from the "Various Artists" group, which is what I want also. Any more hints or views on usage of the "BAND" and "Album Artist" tags would be gratefully received. I have an extensive FLAC library and not a single file contains a tag entry called BAND. Basically I use ARTIST and set COMPILATION to 0 when the album is by a single artist and 1 when it's a various artists album. Don't have any issues browsing Albums by Artist with this approach. If you still need to create a BAND tag based on ALBUM ARTIST, the approach described using mp3tag works a treat. -- egd Thecus N5200PRO >> Transporter >> ATC SCA2 >> ATC SCM100SLAT egd's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3425 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39315 ___ ripping mailing list ripping@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/ripping
Re: [SlimDevices: Ripping] Copying info from one FLAC tag to another?
Use MP3Tag actions, you can select your whole collection and use format tag something like: set band tag: value = %albumartist% I don't have the software on the hand, but it should be something like this. PS: always try on a couple of albums first and check you action didn't destroy something or better, keep a full copy of your collection somewhere before doing such action over all your files...
