Re: [SlimDevices: Ripping] best tagging software?

2009-03-26 Thread Nonreality

It's not just AMG its also GD3 which has just improved their classical
tagging. It's nice that dbpoweramp uses 4 metadata services(AMG, GD3,
Music Branz and FreeDB.org) to come up with the most accurate tags out
there. The other nice thing is that the service is only $5 a year.

Even with dBpoweramp I run all my rips through Tag&Rename to get
larger, higher quality covers from Amazon. I agree though, the meta
data from AMG is good.

dBpoweramp does such a good job when ripping (I signed up for the AMG
subscription,) that I usually don't have to do anything afterwards.
Sometimes, particularly with classical music, I have to do a touch up,
and I use EasyTag for that.

dBpoweramp runs fine on my Ubuntu machine with wine installed.

Re: [SlimDevices: Ripping] best tagging software?

2009-03-23 Thread GeeJay

I used EAC, foobar and mp3tag for quite some time, and was reasonably
happy with them (particularly for the price - free!). I finally got
tired of the work involved in using multiple products to rip and tag my
music, so decided to pay for the full version of dbpoweramp. I have
been extremely satisfied with that decision. VERY easy to use, highly
accurate, and is as flexible as I need it to be.

I still use mp3tag quite a bit for minor clean-up work, primarily to
change tags on greatest hits compilations, but I haven't used EAC since
I bought dbpoweramp, and foobar doesn't get opened a lot anymore,
either.

Re: [SlimDevices: Ripping] best tagging software?

I agree on dbPoweramp -- excellent tagging during the rip (including
excellent cover-art-finding), and good solid accurate rip -- and very
fast, with dual cores being utilized effectively in the paid-for
version. And you can rip to two different folders/files/formats at
once, e.g. lossless for use on SC, lossy for use on a portable device.
And then there is the awesome batch-convert function. Worth every
penny.

For doing all of the above and album art try dbpoweramp if you don't
mind paying for it. It has the best tagging while ripping I've found
plus a lot of other great tools.

I found Foobar2000 to do magic, I have the Doors Complete Studio
Recordings (I belive there is 7 CD's all in all, 1 bonus and all the
studio albums). Not sure how they where tagged but instead of the
original album title they had "CD1", "CD2" and so on but Foobar tagged

My problem now is artwork but it seems like MP3Tag does it's magic
there (and maybe at some other stuff too), Im downloading it now and I

Thats probably because AIFF doesn't have a proper metadata structure.
iTunes is probably making it up as it goes along. This is the same with
WAV files.

Thanks funkstar, i have had Tag 0.4.1 installed, but not all format
(such as AIFF) can be recognised by Tag. For AIFF, i used iTunes to
retag.

I missed mp3tag software before switching to Mac OS, it's great tag
software, hope to see more tag softwares for Mac OS.

For my FLAC collection, I'm using MusicBrainz Picard tagger for the
dirty work and mp3tag for fine-tuning.

Picard does a good job most of the times and automatically includes
tags like album artist, artistsort, albumartistsort etc.
Mp3tag is a great program for the rest, like correcting small errors,
including album art etc.

Re: [SlimDevices: Ripping] best tagging software?

I use Foobar2000 most of the time to play files and tag them. It allows
me to scan an add replaygain information, fill tags automatically
according to filenames, use FreeDB to get tags, move and rename files
according to tags, and most of the stuff you'll need to manage your
library.
When it gets more complicated (if I want to add/remove artwork or copy
some info from one tag to another for example) I use MP3Tag.

But I guess by now there must be plenty of programs that handle the
tags just fine, so it's up to you to decide which one you prefer ^^

My favourite is Tag&Rename as it has a nice itnerface and can pull
artwork and tag detail from Amazon (UK, US, Canada, France, Germany and
Japan).

However, if you errant tags that it doesn't know about, there isn't a
way to display and sort them. I use mp3tag for that.

Like Fedder says: there's a lot out there. The only thing we can do is
give our own experiences.

I first used Easytag, now I use MP3Tag. Contrary to what the name
suggests, this program works great with FLAC=files too. I find it very
versatile: it can do all I want. And it has some very handy macro
facilities. Search the forum for mp3tag and you will find a lot.

That question is impossible to answer. There are far too many personal
preferences involved.

I happen to like easytag, but then again someone else might favor
editing the files directly with a hex editor. So I guess that the real
answer is left as an exercise for the reader.
