 Because the back slash is the traditional escape character.
 So that the dot is interpreted as a dot, not as "any single character"
 as it normally means.

It has been a while. You may need some quotes in there somewhere. It has
been some time since I have messed with this.

Are you all .WAV? Or some .wav, .mp3, .flac, etc?
