April 2016 Kuratoren: Edit Molnár & Marcel Schwierin Das Edith-Russ-Haus präsentiert die erste Soloausstellung des renommierten israelischen Videokünstlers, Malers und Autors Roee Rosen (*1963) in Deutschland. Zentrale Themen in Rosens Werk sind Fragen der Identität, des Todes und des ,Bösen‘, Themen, die er im menschlichen Körper spiegelt. Er verschleiert seine Identität, indem er in seinem Werk in zahllosen verschiedenen Figuren erscheint, mal als Mann, mal als Frau und mal als Künstlergruppe. Mit dieser Strategie macht er die widersprüchlichen historischen und sozialen Narrationen von Macht, Ohnmacht und Unterdrückung sichtbar. Er nimmt dabei bewusst die Zuschreibungen antisemitischer Propaganda auf und übersteigert sie ins Groteske. In seinem Werk verwischen die Grenzen zwischen Realität und Fiktion, zwischen historischen Tatsachen und ihrer Transformation. Die dunklen Themen seiner Arbeit um Gewalt und Leid konterkariert er mit einem schwarzen, aber niemals zynischen Humor. Mit diesen radikalen künstlerischen Strategien durchbricht er den normativen Konsens, mit dem diese Themen normalerweise behandelt werden und macht ihre Aktualität schmerzlich bewusst. Die Ausstellung zeigt Videoinstallationen, Zeichnungen, Bücher, Poster und T-Shirts Rosens, eine neue Installation von Live and Die as Eva Braun, die erste öffentliche Präsentation von The Blind Merchant, sowie die speziell für das Edith-Russ-Haus entstandene Installation Justine Frank Morphing Self Portraits. Die Justine Frank Morphing Self Portraits sind als Projektion in den öffentlichen Raum im Aquarium des Edith-Russ-Hauses installiert und sind jeden Abend von Sonnenuntergang bis Mitternacht zu sehen. Öffentliche Führungen finden am Sonntag um 11:00 und 15:00 statt. Die Teilnahme ist kostenfrei bei regulärem Eintritt in die Ausstellung. ++++++++++++++++++++English Version++++++++++++++++++++ Dear friends of the Edith-Russ-Haus for Media Art, You are cordially invited to the closing of our exhibition: Live and Die as Eva Braun and Other Intimate Stories by Roee Rosen Sunday, 10 April 2016 Curators: Edit Molnár and Marcel Schwierin The Edith-Russ-Haus presents the first solo exhibition of the renowned Israeli video artist, painter, and author Roee Rosen (born 1963) in Germany. The central themes of Rosen's work are questions of identity, death, and "evil," themes that he reflects through the human body. He disguises his identity by appearing in his works in countless different figures, sometimes as a man, sometimes as a woman, and sometimes as an artist group. With this strategy, he makes visible otherwise hidden and contradictory historical and social narratives of power, powerlessness, and oppression. He takes up deliberately anti-Semitic propaganda and exaggerates it into the grotesque. Rosen systematically blurs the boundaries between reality and fiction, historical facts, and confabulation. The heavy topics and provocative approaches of his narratives on violence and suffering are in sharp juxtaposition with his dark but never cynical humor. With his radical artistic strategy he deliberately breaches the normative consensus with which society at large treats these issues to make us painfully aware of their topicality. The exhibition includes video installations, drawings, books, posters, and T-shirts by Roee Rosen, a new installation of Live and Die as Eva Braun, the first-ever public presentation of the project The Blind Merchant, and an installation that was specially created for the Edith-Russ-Haus: Justine Frank Morphing Self Portraits. The Justine Frank Morphing Self Portraits are projected into the public space as an installation of the Aquarium at the Edith-Russ-Haus and will be screened every night from sunset to midnight. Guided tours are offered on Sunday at 11 pm and 3 pm.
