I think I've got a handle on the remaining shigerugo problem.
Take a look at this:

As you can see, the charset is being declared in the embedded HTML instead of
in the MIME headers.  As far as I know, this is illegal, but since most
graphical MUA's have mini web browsers built into them, it just happens to
work anyway.
