I know nothing about that particular Korg. In general though, any of
the multi-timbral synths should do what you want. Does your Korg only
have 8 parts though? That CAN be a limitation, depending on your
workflow. You just need to get it into multi-timbral mode, where each
part is on a different MIDI channel, and get your .rgd file set up so
all the proper bank/program changes are sent, and you should be good to go.

Okay, what I think you need to do is go into global settings.
Somewhere inside you will find 'Bank Map' - this will probably be set
to GM2. Change it to 'Korg' instead, and that should solve the problem.

Re: [Rosegarden-user] Unexpected Bank Selection

2011-08-09 Thread Mark E. Skeels
Thanks a bunch.this one email was as helpful to me as several days
of Googling...

I set the Global Bank map from GM to Korg...that took care of the GM
problem.

I then ran into exactly the issue you described...only 1 channel and
no multitimbral sound..

I found an obtuse reference to this in the MIDI section of the Parameter
Guide..after reading your email I set the Korg to Sequencer mode and
now I am getting multitimbral sound.

I understand I can get 8 part multitimbral using combis.

It was not intuitive to me at all even what a combi is for. I have had
to fight my way to understanding by osmosis; mainly reading anything I
can find on midi, Korg and PC sequencers.

It seems that the Korg TR was not really a popular synth since I see
virtually no info on it on line, compared to the Karma, M3, M50, etc.
I'd love to find a gorup of people using this synth as a resource.

AFAICT there is no good source of information like a "how to get
started" thingy with the Korg and RoseGarden. If you are a MIDI know
nothing guy like me you almost have to stumble into the answers, not
even really knowing what questions to ask.

I am told that instead of a workstation synth an arranger synth might be
more suited to what I am trying to do...but I don't know.

In any case, I can now get down to the actual work of trying to create
backing tracks for live performance as a one man band.

Is anybody doing anything like this with RoseGarden?

Thanks for this resource and those who took time to answer.

Mark
