[Rosegarden-user] Newbie, asking for help to setup an audio recording

2012-07-01 Thread Stephen H. Dawson
Good Morning,

Getting up and running with Rosegarden on my Linux Mint box. Have spent
many years with pro audio, and some time with Ableton Live. Windows box
motherboard went, tired of giving $$$ to Microsoft. Going down the Linux
road.

Need to recored a very simple audio file. This would be from a mic in
the webcam I have. I need to record some simple audio of myself
speaking. I would use the Linux Mint native sound recorder. However, I
need to pause the recording every so often, as it is a long recording
and that feature is not available in the Linux Mint native sound recorder.

I am looking for very straight forward instructions to be able to set
this up and get it done. My walk through the user manual has not been
extensive, but I am wondering if I need to perhaps better peruse this in
another application. I am 3-minutes familiar with Audacity, but that is
only me wondering if that is a better option than Rosegarden.

Please advise.

Thank you very much.

Kindly,
SHD

Sure, such a simple task can be done with Rosegarden if you want.
But IMO that would be a bit overkill.

Audacity is probably a more obvious choice in this case.

BTW what is that native sound recorder in Linux Mint that you are
referring to?

Rosegarden would be a bit of overkill since you need to set up jackd.
I recommend Audacity. If your Webcam's mic is recognised by ALSA then
you can select it in Edit-Preferences-Devices, see
http://www.marzen.de/tmp/audacity.jpg

It's that simple.

[Rosegarden-user] Raspberry Pi

2012-07-01 Thread Richard Bown
I've just received my raspberry Pi. Anyone had any luck getting RG to run on
it yet and any advice on distros? I have a day or two to do some research as I
find I've not got a micro USB connector anywhere to my slight surprise.

Cheers,
Richard

I would be very surprised if you could run something with Rosegarden's memory
and processor requirements on RasPi!

2012-07-01 Thread Julie S
Oh, man!

I want a raspberry pi! Actually, I want about 8 of them so I can make a
beowulf cluster with them -- just because it would be cool.

I didn't think about using it for Rosegarden. Hmmm...

Sincerely,
Julie S.

How many months did you have to wait, Richard?

and just realized I clicked past the one year uptime mark a week ago.)
