[Rosegarden-user] Trouble with instrument programs and variations

2013-01-03 Thread Marcio Scheibler
Hi,

I've been using rosegarden with fluidsynth(qsynth) over ubuntu for some
time, and organized soundbanks by using variation feature (show variation
list based on LSB), what used to work well.

After upgrading to rosegarden 11.11.42 (available in ubuntu 12.04), I'm
getting some trouble regarding that feature.
Although studio setup remains the same (including instrument banks), when
playing back, rosegarden seems to bypass assigned program variation, by
always forcing default program for assigned program number.

For instance if I choose program 19 (Percussive organ) and I have
variations:
- 1: percussive organ (default); and
- 2: detuned organ 2
Even if I set 2 as variation in instrument parameter box, rosegarden
forces percussive organ.

I believe that's not a missing program change issue, since even if I edit
channel assignments by hand trough qsynth (setting it as it should be
like instrument parameter box shows), when playing, I can see that
rosegarden changes that assignment (unfortunately in a wrong way).

I've upgraded to rosegarden 12.04 and the issue remains...
Any ideas or any workaround ?
Thanks in advance.

Since you're already familiar with upgrading, can you grab 12.12.25 and
see if the issue still remains?

I'm going to guess it probably does, but I don't have time to test it
for myself just at the moment.

Thinking back, I can't remember the last time I verified that variations
worked correctly, and it seems entirely possible and even likely that we
just never realized we broke this.

We'll get it sorted out one way or another. This is the kind of thing
that could justify an immediate new release if it turns out it's still
broken, and it probably will turn out that way if I don't miss my guess.

Re: [Rosegarden-user] Play on RG kills percussion track - SOLVED

2013-01-03 Thread joe
Hi!

Finally I managed to fix the percussion issue - thanks Michael for
mentioning KMidiMon! Let me share the result of my experience with you,
it might be useful for some you later on:

As you're surely all aware, the percussion Bank is set up in RG as
MSB=1, LSB=0 by default. I have just learned in the Clavinova reference
guide, that Yamaha is using MSB=127, LSB=0 for some reason... :(

After changing it in the bank-definition accordingly, the complete
percussion stuff remained permanenty even during playback.

Thanks for the help again,

Bye, Joe

 KMidiMon comes to mind.

I skimmed through your messages. I don't have anything to add myself.
I can't set up and test something like this, because I don't have access
to a keyboard that has a sound module in the same unit as the
controller. There could be something to that, but I just can't test it
 to experiment.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the update. I had just noticed that issue and hadn't had time to
delve into it. I was watching the thread with great interest.

Re: [Rosegarden-user] Trouble with instrument programs and variations

2013-01-03 Thread Tom Breton (Tehom)
Although studio setup remains the same (including instrument banks), when
playing back, rosegarden seems to bypass assigned program variation, by
always forcing default program for assigned program number.

Afraid that's probably my fault. I think I know what's missing, so I'll
code a fix and push it ASAP.

Odd. I just checked the code of mine that I thought was at fault, and it
isn't. It's already sending variation (ie, bank's LSB and MSB), though I
feared it wasn't.

The only case where it wouldn't is if Send Bank Select is not checked on
MIDI Instrument Parameter Panel.
