[Rosegarden-user] Bank change - again :(

2015-07-08 Thread Abrolag
Rosegarden is still making a mess of this on loading a standard MIDI file.

Please don't try to interpret these. If you get a CC, *any* CC just bung it out
*exactly* as you found it.

I send 0-9 followed by 32-105

I get 0-9, 32-9

Later I send 32-110 by itself
I get 32-255

Later still I send 32-105 again

I get 32-255

WTF!!!

While I'm in rant mode, is there any way to permanently disable that 'auto'
channel feature? I've never wanted it, but I can't count the number of times I
forget about it and wonder why I'm getting no response :(

Reflecting, I realize this is in the same category as the stuff I was
bitching about in the infamous any MIDI apps for Linux that don't suck
thread whose social aftermath provided the impetus that got me to begin
contributing to this project 13 years ago.

I guess if I never got that dealt with satisfactorily through coding or
influence in 13 years, it's obvious I am not cut out for that job.

The auto channel feature is probably the most regrettable management
decision I ever made. It has caused unending problems for the core
users. I was skeptical about the whole thing, but I decided to be
adventuresome instead of conservative. It was an error.

Well, your rant is duly noted, and this seems like a an appropriate time
to exit stage left, and disappear.

   I've opened a bug report:

https://sourceforge.net/p/rosegarden/bugs/1439/

If you can attach a small midi file with just a couple of bank
selects and program changes to illustrate, that would be great. No
guarantee we'll ever get to it, but the problems everyone seems to be
having with standard MIDI files (including myself) is beginning to pull
me in that direction.

I tried to make sure that in every case I was aware of, fixed was
the default. What's the use case where you're seeing auto come up as
the default? MIDI import?

Yes. It's MIDI import and/or starting Rosegarden by calling up a midi file
 with
 the desktops file manager.

Ah. Completely missed that one. There are probably others. I'll
have a look between reviewing functions in CompositionView.
