Those controls are for MIDI. I started writing with the intention of helping you, as I have a Focusrite 2i2 connected to my Linux box, but it turns out I no longer remember anything about recording with it.
I have a Focusrite 18i20 and an OctoPre attached to a Windows box now, and I've switched to using that for all audio work. I have 12 Sennheiser microphones going, and four line inputs. It's ridiculously easy to record with this rig, but I spent a horrifying amount of money drunk clicking on Amazon to get there.
None of which helps you. I'm sorry about that. My heart was in the right place, and I'm just pretty much useless now.
