Your way of working is completely valid and rg should support it. Unfortunately, much of the code doesn't handle this well and I really don't want us crashing and losing people's data. Perhaps we should add an "edit during playback" option to the preferences. It will warn that this practice may lead to instability, crashes, and data loss. Then it will reverse the fixes that I put in. Or at least a subset of them that you were using.
