Hmmm ... rpm5 isn't exactly heavy, just maximally featured: the fundamental 
basics
are still quite lean-and-mean.

If you can itemize the details of (not) lighter, I'm quite sure
I can beat the crap out of (wrto any performance metrics, and
even memory size tunables) any other package manager on the planet.

Assuming a fair engineering bake-off however: most complaints are all anecdotal
and opinionated, often irrelevant and surreal, these days.
 I use rpm5 on my Dev boxes, and it's working fine for me.

I use rpm5 on my Dev boxes, and it's working fine for me.


OpenEmbedded/Yocto Project used RPM5.  Specifically because it gives us more 
flexibility in cross compilation and control.
