 | Hi:
 |
 | Last week we had a presentation from a web monitoring company about their
 | new product. It's called Platinum 365 and is here:
 |
 | Although, without a login you can't get very far. I'm not sure how to get
 | a login at this time.
 |
 | Halfway through the presentation they suddenly brought up these charts
 | that are RRD Tool/MRTG. I don't know the GPL real well but there was no
 | mention of it on the site. I figure someone else should take a better
 | look.

well it is perfectly alright providing a commercial service based
on GPLed software. GPL is not against makeing money. What GPL says
is, that if you make changes to the software, and then giveaway (or
sell) the software, you must also provide the changes in source
form and the whole thing must remain under GPL ...

so as long a platinum365 is not selling binary copies of a modified rrdtool
without giving the source to their changes as well as granting a
GPL license, the odds are that they are not doing anything wrong
...

On another note, good style may prompt people who are getting money
(fame, a good day) out of mrtg/rrdtool to a) give credit and
b) visit http://ee-staff.ethz.ch/~oetiker/wish

cheers
