Rsync consists of three files: the executable rsync and the man pages
rsync.1 and rsyncd.conf.5 (which might be gzipped). To install rsync,

It's pretty clear that the trouble is the case insensitivity of the filesystem.
In fact, I reproduced this behavior on a vfat partition mounted on Linux:
