[RollTideFan] ADMIN Notice For RollTideFan
I've read the whining about the server. I've spent an assload of money on different servers only to be kicked off without notice or reason (without a refund), have shitty server performance, have my bandwidth requirements throttled without notice, etc... The list needs to reside on a server that uses CPanel software for domain and file maintenance because that is the format that we've always used. This includes MailMan mail list software. All of out files are compatible with this format only. The server also has to allow lists to be created which, believe it or not, not all do. Some ignorant serve admins are so stupid that they set up the software wrong and get hammered by e-mails once a list is used. They think I am a spammer and jack me with no conversation. If the software is set up correctly there are none of those issues. What I am saying it that I have always tried to use the best server available within our requirements and financial limitations. Some are better than others. Now, since the vast, vast majority of people on this list only lurk (you suck!) then i can't see any reason we can't allow pictures to be posted. We need only GIF JPEG/JPG images and NO MOVIES (of ANY kind) or WAV/sound files until we see how this will work on out bandwidth. As for HTML, knock your socks off until we see how it uses bandwidth. I've asked for this before with almost no response, but here goes: If you want a more reliable server then find it. Use the requirements listed above plus it needs to be a UNIX server. My sandbox list is *very* high traffic, about triple the traffic of this list with HTML and many pictures. During the busy times it's nothing to have several hundred megs of traffic inbound a day (not counting the resending that the list does to each member). I tell you this because the host for me is http://www.cmhe.net/ and they charge me $39 a month. It is a mailman based list. If you want to talk requirements with their lead tech contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] and address it to the attention of Bill. Tell him I told you. For the most part there are no problems, but sometimes messages are delayed, usually to a jam up on the server end. They usually respond within 30 minutes to a problem. I don't know what you pay for this list, so that may be more expensive than you want. Charles Mims http://www.the-sandbox.org fun, friendly debate and talk about life. Bitter? I don't think so. I am irritated because people piss moan about pictures html and when I relent I get a smart-assed remark rather than anything even remotely positive. Smart ass is funny sometimes. Sometimes it's just smart-assed. Also, I explained why we need to go to a certain software on a server. Do you want to type 150 or more e-mail addresses into Google to get everyone signed up? I'm not going to do it. Do you think that the majority of the membership will even know how to sign up for Google, activate the membership, and use another e-mail address to post, anyway? I seriously doubt it. Not that they post now, mind you. Besides, while I use Google's search engine, I do NOT trust them in the least for anything else. --- Original Message --- On Wed, 13 Jul 2005 17:12:06 -0500, Jeff Todd wrote: Why are you so bitter? [RollTideFan] Instant Replay
I believe it was Joe who asked the instant replay question a couple days ago. Here is the rules that the Big 10 used in 2004 and the SEC has adopted it for this season ... ~~~ Only the replay official can stop play to review a call. All calls are reviewed by a replay official from the press box. If a play is in question, the replay official alerts the officials on the field and play is stopped. The replay official watches angles provided by the television coverage for that game. Calls involving clock and/or game management cannot be reviewed even if noticed by the replay official. Instant replay is used in all conference games. In non-conference games, the visiting team must agree to use the replay or it will not be available. The types of plays that are reviewable include plays that are governed by the sideline, goal line, end zone and end line, passing plays, and other detectable infractions, such as forward progress with respect to first down. Also... Instant replay was used in 28 of 57 potential games last season, and referees overturned 21 of 43 disputed calls. The average game time increased by only three minutes from 2003, to 3 hours, 16 minutes. ~~~ So there you have it. Roll Tide!
