In fact, I was told that not only would I NEVER be
allowed to subscribe to their ISP, I would be lucky
if
they didn't discontinue my phone service altogether.
Just like that prick not to know basic Alabama law.
The PSC classifies phone service the same as electric
service; you can't deny it to anyone except for
reasons of non-payment without a court ruling. Of
course, you probably already knew that.
My problems with them are minor in comparison. I had a
terrible connection, sometimes so bad that I couldn't
understand the conversation I was attempting to have.
I gave up trying to access anything via fax or modem.
For six months they swore that their side was just
fine, and that it was in my lines.
I reinstalled everything once and checked all my
circuits with a fancy network gadget I borrowed from
work (all good). I told the service person the next
day what I did, and he couldn't understand how I would
check my lines without having them hooked up to the
phone lines. That was a huge red flag.
I put a piece of scotch tape on the box outside my
house before I left for work the day they were
supposed to come check for problems again. It was
still there when I got home. No difference in the
crappy static filled signal..
Within a week I received a bill with a $50 service
charge. I blew up. I called president prick like you
did, and he said that I had been asking for service
too much and that I needed to get my lines fixed
before I called again. We had words, but he rescinded
the $50 charge. He still wouldn't help with the crappy
signal (which he admitted he could hear during our
conversation).
A week later the line was completely dead. I opened
the box myself, pulled out the part that had little
burned spots at the connections and called them from
my neigbor's WITH THE PART NUMBER! Finally, they came
out, fixed their box, and I had a good signal.
My next bill had a $50 service charge. I sent it back
to them with a nice note telling them where they could
stick their bill and to disconnect me. The next day I
got a cellphone which costs about the same as the
monthly rape rate Otelco was getting and gives a
better signal!
Later a friend worked in the AR dept for a while. She
was fired for stupid reasons, but they needed her to
finsh with some project. On her last day, she cleared
all of my charges.
A couple of years ago I got my chance to get a little
more back. I was selling commercial type self-inking
stamps and had the opportunity to call on Otelco! They
bought a few date stamps and some other stuff. I wrote
up their order and overcharged them... guess
Yes! $50!
It was a beautiful day.

Re: Re: [RollTideFan] Sunday night, Monday night...

2005-04-19 Thread Jeff Todd
Otelco bought my phone service provider - Hopper
Telephone, located in Walnut Grove, Alabama. I have no
other options for land-line phone service. As such, back
in 1998, and even until this very day, my only
local-number access to the Internet was through
Hopper.net.

After about 1 1/2 years as [EMAIL PROTECTED] some other
yahoo's and myslef waged war against the retarded
banafan list boner. At about the same time, I was waging
a private war with a bull-dyke in Nashville, Tennessee.
Unbeknownst to myslef at the time, I was getting heavy
artillery support from a forward position. When the
smoke cleared, my hopper.net account was permanently
terminated. A personal call to the dickhead Otelco
President to plead my case was an exercise in futility.
In fact, I was told that not only would I NEVER be
allowed to subscribe to their ISP, I would be lucky if
they didn't discontinue my phone service altogether.

What's your story?

 Monday, April 18, 2005
Double switch: Sunday Night Football to NBC
 ESPN.com news services

The NFL's Monday Night Football, a staple on ABC
for the past 35 seasons, will move to ESPN starting
with the 2006 season.

And NBC is returning to the NFL after six years away
by taking the Sunday night broadcast previously on
ESPN.

The Monday night move from network TV to basic
cable, hinted at continually by commissioner Paul
Tagliabue, was announced Monday.

We are thrilled to have the excitement and energy
of Monday Night Football on ESPN and I am confident
that we will continue the excellence that has been the
hallmark of ABC's coverage for the last 35 years,
said George Bodenheimer, president of ESPN and ABC
Sports. The tremendous success ESPN has had with
Sunday Night Football will be enhanced with the Monday
night tradition. We will bring all of our company's
leading sports assets to bear in extending the Monday
Night Football brand.

NBC will get the Sunday night package for $600
million over six years, sources told The Associated
Press. The network will also get the Super Bowl in
2009 and 2012 as part of the deal, a source told the
AP.

The league's financial package with ESPN has not
been confirmed.

The moves leave ABC -- which originated Monday
Night Football on Sept. 21, 1970 with the New York
Jets visiting Cleveland -- as the only major network
without NFL football.

MNF has been a network institution ever since, and
the second-longest running prime time network series,
trailing 60 Minutes on CBS by two years. The
highest-rated game was a 29.6, with a 46 share, for a
1985 game between the then-unbeaten Chicago Bears and
Miami Dolphins. Miami won, ending Chicago's hopes of a
perfect season.

ABC and ESPN are both subsidiaries of the Walt
Disney Co. ESPN currently carries games every Sunday
night and sometimes on Thursday. The NFL is still
considering separate packages for Thursday and
late-season Saturday nights.

 Beginning in 2006, ESPN's Emmy Award-winning Monday
Night Countdown will air from game sites every Monday
during the NFL season.

Last month, Tagliabue said during the NFL meetings
in Hawaii that the Monday night move was a strong
possibility.

CBS and Fox already have agreed to pay a total of $8
billion over six years for the Sunday AFC and NFC
rights.

NBC has been struggling in prime-time this season,
and even risks an unprecedented fall into fourth place
in the ratings. ABC's newfound ratings strength with
Desperate Housewives on Sunday nights has been
particularly damaging.

NBC will devote its entire Sunday night prime-time
lineup to the NFL. The Sunday night games will start
at 8:15 p.m. ET and include flexible scheduling for
the final seven weeks of the season, details of which
will be developed by the league.

That issue has become more pressing since parity
caused by the salary cap has resulted in teams moving
up and down the standings annually, leaving bad teams
that were strong the previous season in prime time and
good teams that were bad the past season off of it.

A great deal with the NFL is the best deal you can
get in television, said NBC sports chairman Dick
Ebersol. He said the network hasn't started working on
finding anchors for the Sunday night broadcast.

We're celebrating for a day, Ebersol said. Then
I'm sure we'll get a lot of calls.

Information from The Associated Press was used in
this report.
