I didn't know about this debug option. Turns out that, when copying the TeX output to a fresh file, the error still appears. I think I've pared it down to an issue with the preview package, which is very annoying. Even though preview comes packaged with TeX Live, I updated to the latest

If you do `view(G, debug=True)`, it will first print out the entire LaTeX file that it's using. You could paste that into an actual file and see if you can pin down what the error is, and whether it's coming from your TeX installation or somewhere else. On Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at
