Wouldn't be possible to synchronize the login/password with the ones of trac? Furthermore, if the purpose of this zulip instance is sage development, it would be better to have *only* this trac login authentification active. This way username in zulip would actually matches developers logins

Hi all, the problem went away when I switched from 32-bit debian jessie to 64-bit stretch. One would suspect a bug in some of the system libraries, because the version of Sage is the same (and compiled locally from source). Obviously the motivation to find it went down somewhat. I thank everyone

Thanks for the additional comments -- very helpful. I did unsubscribe from trac but then resubscribed to (quite a lot of) specific components. This will be much more useful. (I resisted the temptation to subscribe to trac-PLEASE CHANGE but can see that this list of streams (or whatever tey are
