The binary was compiled for a newer version of your distro; Either download
the appropriate binary or compile from source.

Looks like your build environment has some environment variables set that
conflict with libtool. Also, look at the config.log.

Why don't I see 'maxima' in the crash logs? And why don't I see 'maxima'
starting up as a subprocess?
