Would JRE be enough? But if so, what does "installed" mean? When you
pull a jre6 distribution from Oracle/Sun, the instructions
only talk about how to set up the web browser to use it, nothing more.

No, you should be able to view the plots with just Java (maybe with
SDK? I don't know for sure on that). Also, if you use the
viewer='tachyo
