HISTORY OF MUDD-DAVADDI—III.

SPORSTMEN; Ramesh Kerkar, Ramesh Gaddi, Patrick D’Souza.

Like most of the villagers the people of the three wards were mainly agriculturists. Paddy was grown during the monsoon and vegetation during the dry season. Saligao has been famous for sugar-cane plantations which were dens of foxes. It thus gave the villagers the nick- name ‘Saligaoche Kole’( Uxelantle Kole). There were plantations of sugarcane in the fields adjoining the wards. The juice of sugarcane, produced by-products of honey , jaggery, ‘bellio’ and vinegar. The juice extracted from by crushing the sugarcanes by means of a local mechanism called ‘ghanno’. The sale of above products in the Ghats brought prosperity to the villagers.

Foreigners have acclaimed Goans as Italians of the East in Music. The Parochial School played an important role. A tune is more lasting then the voice of the birds The song is more lasting than the richness of the words. The late Miguel Antonio Remedios ( Tabravaddo/Mudd’davaddi) was a renowned teacher of piano and violin. He started a music shop in Calcutta and his descendants have music shops in Bangalore and Margao under the style of Reynolds(‘ Mr. Lawrence Rodrigues our saligaonetter wants to update the geneology of these Remedios’, could somebody help him to trace Mr. Miguel Antonio Remedios’ascendants and descendants ?. He has a quite good geneology of this Remedios’ family done but is still in need of help from the family and others to update the same. And add to his findings’.)
